This is my happy place. I've been going here since I was a kid. My family is from Montebello and my grandfather, father and aunt all worked here. When it was the Seigniory Club and when it was part of the Fairmont Hotel family. It looked tired when I was there a couple of years ago but I am happy to see that is no longer the case. It's a great place for a getaway. Rooms aren't huge but are cozy. I can spend hours in the lobby with the fireplace and couches just reading and people watching. Lots of fun. Go. You won't regret it. Fabulous service from staff. Lots of activities on site.

I'd love to say bad things just to protect this gem from crowds, but that would be too evil, even for me. We had the greatest NYE ever! Great food, great party, even greater staff. The only thing better than the Chateau was meeting one of their long, longtime guests, Mrs Paterson. If ever you're there, ask the staff about her, and if she's there, invite her to your table. You won't be disappointed.

From check in to check out everyone was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately when I came the weather conditions were not great, but no one can control the weather. So instead of all the outdoor activities we were more inclined to stay inside. So we enjoyed the restaurants the bars and sitting in the giant lobby. We had absolutely amazing massage experiences, and a nice time in the little town. Admittingly you can hear people walking on higher floors but this didn't really bother us, it was almost unnoticeable and part of the charm. Everyone seems to flawlessly switch between English and French, if only all of Canada could do that! I hope to come back to complete everything I couldn't this time around, but this was the relaxing escape from the city I needed!

Chateau Montebello is the Jewel of the Fairmont crown. Originally built as a private hunting and fishing club in 1930 it's apparently still the world's largest log structure. The highlight is the massive open lobby which is simply stunning with a giant soaring six-sided wood burning stone fireplace in the center surrounded by intimate seating arrangements. In as much as I have included a photo, unfortunately pictures simply do not do it justice - you really need to experience it first hand to truly appreciate it's beauty and the associated warm and welcoming atmosphere it radiates. We have been coming annually for the last 20 years or so for their Grand Sunday Brunch which is absolutely amazing. At $50/person it's not cheap (which is why we typically only come once a year) but the quality and variety is top notch and, if you enjoy gourmet food and appreciate this type of old world ambiance, in my opinion it's well worth it.

This is easily one of the most amazing properties in Canada, and it's impossible to describe the experience of being here without actually being here. From the classic Quebecois country feel of the massive log structure to the always-attentive Fairmont staff, you'll want to visit in every season. The huge six-sided fireplace and ample public spaces make it a place you can comfortably hang with a large group, or find a quiet corner with someone special. There are lots of things to do, both winter (try a sleigh ride) and summer. Don't think twice, just come.
